One of our most innovative team members put together a Spotify playlist the other day with some of his recent faves, and this jam by Nashville’s Future Unlimited was featured about halfway through. “Lightweight Eyes” is a dark, driving synthpop single in the vein of the work of Faunts, The Ice Choir, and Lake Heartbeat. What you hear is what you get: foreboding lead synths, pulsing basslines, a rhythm synth track, chilly vocal samples, and dark vocal effects during the refrain. All told, our first brush with this electronic track by David Miller and Samuel D’amelio (Future Unlimited) was pretty predictable. Very radio-friendly, very typical of that Depeche Mode-esque synthpop tone, and very, very catchy. Do yourself a favor, and grab a free MP3 download of Future Unlimited’s strobe-lit single “Lightweight Eyes” below, and then take a look at the duo’s debut EP afterwards.
