TSQ VOL FOUR: ARRIVAL A →
This monthly batch of the Tiananmen Square Dance blog’s recent musical discoveries is one of my favorites so far. Pulling from solid sources like iso50, LYFSTYL, and RCRD LBL, this mix is a lot more ambient and electronic than some of the last few. “TSQ VOL FOUR: ARRIVAL A” takes off immediately with some hip electronic jams, sustaining the pace for a few tracks when, subtly, a funkified, retro turn is taken. The exoticism gives way to psychedelic ambiance a few tunes later, which in turn, plunges into a decidedly moody lull, giving way shortly to an earnest meditation on quiet desperation. An hour and some change later, after a cry for help towards the end, “ARRIVAL A” finishes with an apocalyptic conclusion.
