05. BROTHERTIGER'S "VISION TUNNELS" →
Brothertiger sits on the genre fence resolutely between lo-fi tribal psychedelia and vintage synth-based pop. Warbling like he’s taken Panda Bear’s “Chillwave Vocals 101”, Ohio resident John Jagos takes it away with this short, but vibrant five-track showcasing of what this man can do with his machine. “Vision Tunnels” is colorfully muted, inescapably hip, and inspiringly catchy. Crooning and calling from afar, his vocals resonate strongly amid layered beats and a thick hazy backdrop of retro synth play. Despite his little-to-no budget ethos, Brothertiger is able to capture the very sunlight, the dewdrops, the cicadas, alchemizing fuzzy gossamer melodies that sum the Summer up in such a way that you can taste it. It’s like a chorus of friendly insects spinning a euphonious twilight masterpiece. “Vision Tunnels” is home to some of the best tracks that I’ve had the pleasure of hearing this past year, and as such, is well worth the $2.50 that John Jagos humbly requests in return for his art. Do tha right thing, and spend a couple of bucks at his Bandcamp for some the phreshest tunes you’ll hear in a while.
