Hearing Gold’s latest free mix “Vacation Spirit” was released just the other day, featuring an amalgamation of independent lo-fi and retro artists, the vast majority of which are of the Pet Sounds-influenced surf variety. Hidden amongst the wash of largely interchangeable sounds lay this marvelous tune, “The Clouds”, by little known Nashville chillwave artist Bedroom. Vaguely Balearic in tone, this standout track near the end of the playlist gives way halfway through to an underground hip-hop beat that propels the track along at a leisurely, yet determine pace, never once stepping on the melody’s toes. Making waves with an underlying tinny-sounding guitar and briefly joined by a lilting 16-bit lead synth a couple of times, Noah Kittinger’s (Bedroom) “The Clouds” is one of those laid back jams that works both during the sunniest of all-day beach trips and during the equally gentle rainy day commutes.
