Not much to see here, so I’m just posting a video of one of Toro y Moi’s lesser known remixes, a muted re-imagining of Washed Out’s iconic “Feel It All Around”. Incestuous as it is, I love that chillwave/glo-fi artists are constantly reworking other favorite hipster tunes. Not only does it make for quantity, but it often can make for quality too, where in rare instances a certain remix actually tops the original. Anyways, not a lot to say, but note the infusion of a prominent bassline, guitar twanging, and a subtle synth tone that make this one worthy of being added to your perfectly tagged, rated, and coverflow-ed iTunes library. I caved in and ordered a copy of FUR’s latest full-length “Witches” yesterday. After panicking because I had left the wrong address on my Paypal and then spending far too long trying to find a site that wasn’t too much of a pussy to post a .rar of the album, I sat down and began slooshying the aural masterpiece that is FUR, already mentally thanking Flux-Rad for showing his music to me. Well, it seems I thanked her too soon, because while songs like “Lackadaisical”, “Black Castles” (featuring the Neon Indian dude), and “Haunted” well embody that subtle, contemplative brand of electronic music that I have loved for years, as a whole, FUR’s “Witches” quite often trades in dynamics and progression for synth noodling.



Reminiscent of some of the best work of post-rock electronic artists like The Doldrums, Sybarite, and Wauvenfold, “Witches” has its aforementioned high points, but unfortunately gets mired in ambient foley-esque sampling one too many times. If you consider yourself a connoisseur of minimalist electronic music (think The Album Leaf, Dntel, Tristeza), pick up a copy of FUR’s “Witches” via Lefse Records here, but if you’re more into good IDM and downtempo vibes, do tha right thing and just find some free legal downloads and try to Paypal the guy a few bucks. Hint, hint…
