PHANTOM POWER - “SPACE JUNK”
I’ve been on a trawl lately for good new tunes, so it’s been a bit since I’ve updated. Among the load I pulled in was Phantom Power’s very first release, the Spacetime EP. While overall relatively unremarkable, it was nonetheless interesting and endearing to be able to experience the early beginnings of one of chillwave’s quirkiest independent artists. Phantom Power is a prolific laptop artist, notable for his use of lounge guitar and far-and-away-sounding vocals, which makes for a markedly restful cosmopolitan sound. “Space Junk”, the lone standout on the Spacetime EP sounds much like the forgotten score for a futuristic JRPG composed by a cleaner-sounding 18 Carat Affair. The EP is available entirely free here via Phantom Power’s personal weblog, so do tha right thing and at least give “Space Junk” a hot listen. If you like it, consider donating $5 directly to Eric Littman by downloading the EP here at his Bandcamp. God knows at times it can be droll puttering around in one’s terraced garden while flying cars flit to and fro above, so at least enjoy this one casual glimpse into a weekend in the floating city.
